Fear Not, ACLU is on the Case! (click to read the article) →

Thank you Yahoo!News for putting this on my homepage! I’ve spent the last week and a half researching LGBT rights in schools for a summer school paper. This article mentions both ACLU (the American Civil Liberties Union) and GLSEN (the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network), two sources I’m including in my paper. These kinds of stories are important because they highlight that there is still a lot of prejudice against the LGBT community, and the fact that even schools (who are supposed to be supporting everyone!) are trying to take away the rights of minorities is astounding. Prom is about having fun with your high school friends and significant others before summer—what does it matter if your date is the same sex as you, or if you don’t want to conform to traditional gender-expressive clothing? Nice work, Constance, for not backing down even though it was a tough battle! —k
